RS.Exporter — What’s New

First release: one product replaces three

RS-Systems · Revit 2021–2027 · What’s New

1.1.3–1.1.9 | 10–16.10.2026

  • Four tabs — Model, formerly Export Model, Schedules, Sheets, and Views. The former DXF Export and XLSX Export tabs have become export formats: use “Export Selected” on the Views tab to export the active view or selected objects to DXF, and the Schedules tab to export schedules to XLSX/CSV. When opened from a schedule view, the window starts on Schedules.
  • Sheets and views to DXF and PDF — sheets and views are exported to DXF and PDF, and schedules to XLSX, CSV, DXF, and PDF. PDF is available in Revit 2022 and later: colour, grayscale, or black and white, with one file per sheet or a single combined file.
  • Grouping and checkboxes — by default, the Grouping list follows the Project Browser, either the standard browser or RS.ProjectBrowser. Other browser organizations, RS.ProjectBrowser schemes, and publish sets are also available. Folders and individual items can be checked: a checked folder also includes sheets added to it later, while individual items within it can be unchecked. The selections are stored in the model and shared by all users.
  • Schedule columns — select them using the checkboxes on the right side of the Schedules tab. The selections are stored in the model; unchecked columns are excluded from every export format.
  • File names and folders — file names are defined by a template, with “Number - Name” as the default for sheets. Files can be placed in group subfolders. Before existing files are overwritten, a confirmation prompt lists them; after the export, a report includes an “Open Folder” link.
  • The model remains unchanged — temporarily hiding unselected items, hiding unchecked columns, and creating a temporary sheet to export a schedule to DXF are all rolled back; nothing remains in the undo history.
  • XLSX — the group total label is left-aligned, as in Revit, even when the schedule has no group headers or blank group rows.
  • Window — one size for all tabs, so the window no longer jumps when switching tabs. On the Model tab, buttons and filters wrap to a second row instead of being clipped. The DXF Settings and Line Types windows remember their position and size.
  • Appearance — a consistent style across the product range: square corners; recessed fields, lists, trees, and tables; raised buttons; and colours in all four themes matching Revit windows. Search fields have an “×” clear button, Esc clears the field, and drop-down lists support search as you type.
  • Revit view tab colouring — added, as in all plugins in the range: Fill, which is the default, or Strip, with colours assigned by project or file. Configure it in the ⚙ Settings window.
  • RS.BIMManager — an application can open the RS.Exporter window or export sheets, views, and schedules without opening it: checked items, all items, a specified list, or a grouping folder. Unspecified options are taken from the user’s last export.
  • Name — the product is named rs.Exporter in its windows and RS.RVT.Exporter in the list of installed programs. The licence and trial period are preserved during an update.
  • Licensing and updates, shared across the product range — extend the trial period with a code; activate using a website code in the RS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format, a Suite licence, or an offline licence for this computer; an improved activation window; one RS-Systems Updates window for all installed products and an “Updates for All RS-Systems Products…” button in Settings; stronger licence and update protection.

One window replaces three plugins

RS.Exporter combines RS.DxfExport, RS.ScheduleExport, and RS.Descriptor. Their features have been moved to three tabs in a single window:

  • DXF Export — formerly RS.DxfExport;
  • XLSX Export — formerly RS.ScheduleExport;
  • Export Model — formerly RS.Descriptor.

The separate ribbon buttons have been replaced by a single RS.Exporter button on the RS-Systems tab, in the RS Tools panel.

Launch from a schedule

  • When a schedule view is open, the RS.Exporter button appears on Revit’s contextual Modify Schedule/Quantities tab.
  • When opened from a schedule, the window starts directly on the XLSX Export tab.
  • On the XLSX tab, you can export the open schedule or select several project schedules from the list.

What remains unchanged

  • DXF: layers based on object styles and line types, polyline joining, line type remapping with a .lin file, the mapping table stored in the profile and in a file, and the AutoCAD 2018 format.
  • XLSX: preservation of the header, merged headings, grouping, totals, and column widths.
  • Export Model: a snapshot of parameters in a table and import of values back into the model, including family documents. Tables exported by the former Descriptor can be imported without modification. Apply runs as a single transaction, with a .log file beside the data file; applied changes remain in the model when the window is closed.

Licensing

  • RS.Exporter is a new product with its own license. RS.DxfExport, RS.ScheduleExport, and RS.Descriptor licences do not transfer to it.
  • A 90-day trial period starts with the first launch.
  • After that, use an RS.Exporter licence or time-based billing from the account balance shared by all plugins in the range: 1 cent per minute of actual work, online only.
  • Without internet access, the plugin works during the trial period or under a license.

Installation

  • The RS.Exporter installer removes the earlier RS.DxfExport, RS.ScheduleExport, and RS.Descriptor products together with their ribbon buttons; there is no need to uninstall them manually.
  • Settings from the earlier plugins are picked up on the first launch: the DXF profile and line type mapping table, theme, XLSX export settings and window position, and the size of the Settings… dialog for Export Model. The old settings files are not modified; the line type table can still be transferred using a file.

General

  • Revit 2021–2027 is supported.
  • Themes: Auto, Light, Dark, and RS-Systems. In Auto mode, the window follows the Revit theme.
  • ⚙ Settings in the window: theme, licence, updates, and build information.
DESCRIPTION

RS.Exporter

Export from Revit: DXF, PDF, XLSX, and model parameters

RS-Systems · Revit 2021–2027 · Description

Purpose

RS.Exporter brings Revit export into one window: sheets, views, and schedules to DXF and PDF; schedules to XLSX and CSV with their structure preserved; drawings or selected objects to DXF with layers based on object styles; and model element parameters to a table, with edited values importable back into the model.

The solution replaces three former plugins in the range: RS.DxfExport, RS.ScheduleExport, and RS.Descriptor. All their features are now available on tabs in one window.

Launch

  • “RS-Systems” tab, “RS Tools” panel — the RS.Exporter button opens the export window.
  • Schedule contextual tab — when a schedule view is open, the RS.Exporter button also appears on Revit's green “Modify Schedule/Quantities” contextual tab. A window opened from here always starts on the “Schedules” tab.
  • From RS.BIMManager — you can open the RS.Exporter window or export sheets, views, and schedules without a window: selected, all, from a list, or by grouping folder. Unspecified settings are taken from the user's last export in the window.

The window is modeless: while it is open, you can work in the model, switch views, and change the selection.

Sheets, Views, and Schedules tabs

The window has four tabs: Model, Schedules, Sheets, and Views. On the list-based tabs, sheets, views, or schedules appear in a tree with checkboxes; the checked items determine what is exported.

  • Grouping. By default, the grouping matches the organisation currently used in the Project Browser, either the standard browser or RS.ProjectBrowser. You can choose a different Revit browser organisation, an RS.ProjectBrowser scheme, or publish sets; changing the grouping does not change which items are included in the export.
  • Checkboxes. Checking a folder includes the entire folder, including sheets added to it later; individual items within a checked folder can be unchecked. “Check All” and “Uncheck All” apply to the entire tab. Search matches the number, name, and view type.
  • Storage in the model. The checkbox selections and selected schedule columns are stored in the model and shared by all users. If the model is open as read-only or another user has ownership of the storage, the selections are not saved, and the window explains why.
  • Formats. Sheets and Views: DXF and PDF; Schedules: XLSX, CSV, DXF, and PDF. PDF is available in Revit 2022 and later: colour, grayscale, or black and white, with one file per sheet or a single combined file.
  • File names. The file name template supports number, name, type, group, and project fields; for sheets, the default is “Number - Name”. Invalid characters are replaced, and duplicate names receive a number. “Subfolders by Group” places files in folders that follow the grouping.
  • Export checked or selected items. “Export Checked (N)” exports the checked items. “Export Selected” exports the items selected in the Project Browser; on Views, it exports the selected objects in the active view or the entire active view; on Sheets, the active sheet; and on Schedules, the selected rows in the open schedule or the entire schedule.
  • Report. Before existing files are overwritten, a confirmation prompt lists them. After the export, a report shows the number of files, polylines, and rows, the elapsed time, any notes, and an “Open Folder” link.
  • The model remains unchanged. Temporary hiding, the temporary sheet used to export a schedule to DXF, and hiding unchecked columns are all rolled back: nothing is left in the model or the undo history.

Limitation: folders for browser organizations that are not currently active are built from parameter values. If Revit displays a parameter value differently from how it is stored, as with some uncommon number formats or yes/no values, a checked folder may not be matched after the active organisation is changed.

DXF export

Sheets, views, schedules, and the active view or selected objects are exported as AutoCAD 2018 DXF files. A sheet is exported as a single file together with the views placed on it.

  • Layers based on object styles. Layer names are derived from Revit object styles and line styles. All categories are exported, not just lines.
  • Joining into polylines. Connected chains of lines and arcs are joined into polylines, including both closed loops and open chains. A loop containing different line types is split into polylines by layer.
  • Splines and ellipses are exported as they are, without approximation by line segments.
  • Line type remapping. A Revit line type can be replaced with an AutoCAD line type, changing both its name and its dash pattern definition. The target line types can come from the built-in AutoCAD set or a custom .lin file.
  • Layer line type and ByLayer. You can assign a line type to a layer and set its objects to ByLayer.
  • The mapping table is stored in the user profile and can be saved to or loaded from a file, for example to share the same settings across a department.

The exporter uses its own settings rather than Revit’s standard export dialog. DXF settings, including units, colours, layers, line types, and polyline joining, are configured with the “DXF Settings...” button and apply to all DXF exports.

Schedules tab: XLSX and CSV

Exports schedules and material takeoffs to Excel (XLSX) or CSV while preserving their appearance; the same tab also exports schedules to DXF and PDF.

  • Export schedules checked in the tree, the open schedule, or selected rows within it, with one row per element and without grouping or totals.
  • Preserves the header and title, merged header groups, grouping and total rows, and column widths.
  • The group total label is left-aligned, as in Revit, while total values follow their respective column alignment. Totals are recognised even without group headers or blank group rows.
  • Columns in the selected schedule are checked or unchecked to the right of the list, and the selections are stored in the model. Unchecked columns are excluded from XLSX/CSV and PDF/DXF alike. The last remaining column cannot be unchecked.
  • Standard schedules and material takeoffs are supported. Key schedules, sheet and view lists, note blocks, revision schedules, and panel schedules are not exported.
  • Excel does not need to be installed.

Model tab

Takes a snapshot of element parameters in a table and imports edited values back into the model, allowing bulk parameter editing in an external spreadsheet.

  • Export element parameters to a table.
  • Import modified values back into the model.
  • A snapshot can be taken from a family document (.rfa) as well as from a project.

Appearance, language, and Settings

  • Themes: Auto, Light, Dark, and RS-Systems. The colours follow Revit’s own themes; in Auto mode, the window changes along with the Revit theme.
  • The interface language follows the Revit language.
  • ⚙ Settings — available in the product window: theme, licence, updates, Revit view tab colouring, and build information.
  • Revit view tabs — use a colour assigned by project or file, either filling the entire tab, which is the default, or as a strip along the top. This setting is shared by all plugins in the product range.
  • Search — in search fields, “×” clears the field; Esc also clears a nonempty field. Drop-down lists support search as you type.
  • Windows — the main window uses the same size for all tabs. The DXF Settings and Line Types windows remember their position and size.

Licensing

RS.Exporter is a separate product in the RS-Systems range. Three usage modes are available:

Mode

How it works

Trial period

90 days of full functionality from the first launch. Works offline as well.

Plugin licence

Use RS.Exporter on the computer under a purchased license. Works offline as well.

Time-based billing

Your account balance on rs-systems.org, topped up through PayPal, is shared by all plugins in the range. The charge is 1 cent per minute of actual work per computer, regardless of how many plugins are open. Idle time is not charged. An internet connection is required.

  • Without an internet connection, the plugin works only during the trial period or under a license.
  • When using time-based billing, you can purchase an RS.Exporter licence at any time; the other plugins will remain on time-based billing.
  • The remaining balance appears in the status bar, without pop-up windows.
  • The trial can be extended with an extension code from RS-Systems. A licence can be activated using an RS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX code from the website, a Suite licence, or a licence issued for this computer; the latter can also be applied without an internet connection.

Licences for the earlier RS.DxfExport, RS.ScheduleExport, and RS.Descriptor plugins do not transfer to RS.Exporter.

Installation and updates

  • MSI installer: during installation, select the Revit years in which the plugin will be installed. Years for which Revit is not installed are unavailable.
  • The installer removes the earlier RS.DxfExport, RS.ScheduleExport, and RS.Descriptor products and their ribbon buttons.
  • Check for updates in Settings. A new version is installed after all Revit windows are closed. The licence and trial period are preserved during an update.
  • Available updates for all installed RS-Systems products appear in a single RS-Systems Updates window. The “Updates for All RS-Systems Products…” button in Settings checks for them on demand.
  • The product is named rs.Exporter in its windows and RS.RVT.Exporter in the list of installed programs.
