WHAT'S NEW

RS Rooms

What’s new in versions 1.0.27–1.0.36

The window follows the shared RS-Systems product-line style in all four themes: no rounded corners, with three-dimensional fields, lists, and buttons. The main actions “Create Elevations”, “Create” (walls), and “Insert” (doors) use an accent button.

Search as you type in drop-down lists: enter part of the text to keep only matching rows; Enter selects the match, and Esc clears the search. The “Wall Type” list searches by type name.

The window remembers its position and size between sessions. Theme selection has moved from the window to “Settings”, alongside licensing and updates.

Revit view-tab coloring is now available in this plugin, as in all plugins in the product line: enable it, choose “Fill” or “Stripe”, and set color by project or file in the “Revit Tabs” section of “Settings”. By default, the entire tab is filled with the color (the stripe can be selected again); the active tab is no brighter than the others—it is marked by a colored stripe at the top.

The plugin window can be opened using a command in the RS.BIMManager application, with the same license check as the ribbon button.

Consistent naming: the solution is called rs.Rooms in windows and messages, and RS.RVT.Rooms in “Add or Remove Programs” and in the installer name. The new installer updates the installed version in place: licenses and the trial period are retained.

Licensing and updates (shared across the RS-Systems product line): the trial period can be extended with a code, a license issued for your PC activates without an internet connection, short website codes in the form RS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX are accepted, the Suite license has been fixed, and license protection has been strengthened. Updates for all installed RS-Systems solutions appear in one window and are installed as a single batch after exiting Revit; to open it manually, use “Settings” → “Updates for All RS-Systems Solutions…”.

Usage data: in addition to accumulated working minutes, only an indication that the plugin has been launched is transmitted; computer, user, and file identifiers are still not transmitted.

Shared RS-Systems ribbon: the Export button (RS.Exporter) replaces the RS.DxfExport button; there is no longer a separate Descriptor button.

What’s new in versions 1.0.16–1.0.26

New “Pay-per-use” access mode: instead of a license for each plugin, you can top up your account balance on the website—any plugin in the product line runs for 1 cent per minute of active use. A minute is billed when you enter data, run a command, or processing is underway; an open but idle window is not billed, and using several plugins at once still costs 1 cent per minute. The account is connected using a code on the website; the password is not sent to the plugin, and connecting it in one plugin connects it in all of them. Creating elevations and finishes counts as work even if you are not pressing buttons during processing.

Access priority: plugin license → regional promotion → trial period → pay by time. A new plugin first runs free for 90 days, and charging starts only afterward. Your balance is not used while a license or trial is active. The remaining balance and a “Top up” button, when less than an hour remains, are shown in the status bar. There are no balance pop-ups.

Pay by time works online only. Without a connection or with a zero balance, new commands and panels cannot be launched, but open windows and processing already underway are not interrupted. Offline use is available only during a trial or with a license.

License protection has been strengthened: setting the computer clock back no longer extends the trial or license. The plugin reports: “The computer clock has been set back. Set the correct date and time.” Existing trials are not reset. A purchased license activates automatically in the background after reinstalling Windows or Revit, or after purchasing it on another device.

Usage data has been reduced to a minimum: only a “plugin in use” flag and accumulated working minutes are sent. The installation identifier, versions, license status and details of your actions in the model are not sent.

What’s new in version 1.0.15

New RS Rooms plugin: room elevations (from RS RoomElevations) and finish walls with door placeholders (from RS RoomWalls) are now in one window with “Elevations” and “Walls” tabs, and one button on the RS-Systems tab, in the RS Tools panel. The “Doors” tab is inside “Walls”. The creation logic of both tools is unchanged.

New “Settings” window: theme, license, update check, and build information.

New icons that follow the Revit theme (Light and Dark).

Creating elevations now checks the license when the operation starts.

Fixed: small dialogs no longer stretch across the full screen width.

Note: RS Rooms starts with fresh settings and does not remove the old plugins. To avoid duplicate ribbon buttons, uninstall RS RoomElevations and RS RoomWalls.

DESCRIPTION

RS Rooms

Creates room elevations, finish walls, and door placeholders for all rooms in a Revit project—in batches, from one window.

What it is

RS Rooms is a Revit plugin that takes rooms from your model and linked models and automatically creates what is normally done manually for each room: an interior elevation of every wall, finish (cladding) walls along room boundaries, and door placeholders from the linked architectural model. It combines two previous RS-Systems tools—RS RoomElevations and RS RoomWalls—in one window with tabs.

Why it is needed

Documenting interior finishes involves the same routine for hundreds of rooms: place an elevation marker at every wall, turn it toward the wall, adjust the crop region, and name and organize the views; model a finish wall around each room and cut door and window openings into it; transfer doors from the architectural model to the finishes model. RS Rooms does this for all checked rooms in a single run and leaves ordinary Revit elements that can be edited further.

The “Elevations” tab: interior elevations of every room wall

Creates a separate interior elevation for each wall segment of every checked room.

Rooms are read from the open model and all loaded Revit links, with geometry transformed into the host model’s coordinates. Segments shorter than the specified minimum length are skipped; boundaries formed by room separation lines can be included.

For each segment, the view camera is placed inside the room in front of the wall and turned directly toward it. The crop region covers the wall length plus side offsets; vertically, it extends from the floor minus the bottom offset to the top of the room plus the top offset. The far clip plane is set at the selected depth behind the finish face.

You choose the elevation view type, view template, scale, and all offsets.

View names follow a template using the building, level, room number, room name, and sequence number. Characters prohibited in Revit view names are replaced, and duplicate names receive a suffix. The building is taken from a room parameter you specify or entered manually.

Each view receives shared parameters for the building, level, room number, and room name, allowing views to be filtered, sorted, and arranged on sheets by room. Views created from curved walls or separation lines are marked “check manually”.

The “Walls” tab: finish walls along room boundaries

Creates finish walls inside checked rooms along their boundaries.

You choose a project wall type (the preview shows its layers), a base offset, and a height: either fixed or automatically extending to the level above each room.

The wall centerline is offset into the room by half the wall thickness, so the exterior face lies exactly on the room boundary and the wall body extends inward. The entire boundary is offset at once, giving all walls a consistent orientation and clean corner joints. Arcs remain arcs, and separation lines are skipped.

Optionally, the new walls can be made room-bounding and joined to existing walls.

Optionally, openings can be cut for doors and windows in architectural walls, including those in linked models. Curtain walls are cut across the entire glazed area; door and window openings are not cut in curved walls.

The report shows how many walls were created, how many openings were cut or skipped, and what failed.

The nested “Doors” tab: door placeholders from a linked model

Transfers doors from a linked model (or elements of another category) into your model as editable placeholders.

You choose a loaded link, a category within it, and a placeholder family in your project: a non-hosted family of that category, so that a wall is not required.

Each linked element is copied to its corresponding location. The placeholder receives a “Mark” and a summary in “Comments” (level, From Room, To Room, width, height); if the family has suitable text parameters, the level, rooms, width, height, source identifier, and full source parameter dump are written into them. Matching text parameters are copied as well.

Running the tool again updates existing placeholders rather than creating duplicates: they are matched by source identifier.

How to use it

1. Open the project and click “Rooms” on the RS-Systems tab, in the RS Tools panel.

2. On the required tab, load the room list (host model and links).

3. Check the rooms to process; “Select All” and “Clear All” can help.

4. Set the tab’s parameters: for elevations, the view type and template, offsets, and naming template; for walls, the wall type and height; for doors, the link, category, and family.

5. Click the creation button. The batch runs in the model, and a report shows the results.

What you need to know

The model must contain at least one floor plan (for elevation markers) and levels. Rooms must be placed and enclosed.

Everything is created in the open model; linked models are read only and are not modified.

Light, Dark, and RS-Systems themes are available, along with an “Auto” mode that follows the Revit theme. The interface is translated into Revit’s interface languages. The “Settings” window contains the theme, license, and updates; F1 opens help.

The window follows the shared RS-Systems product-line style; drop-down lists support search as you type, and the window remembers its position and size. In “Settings”, you can enable Revit view-tab coloring by project or file, using a fill or stripe.

Compatible with Autodesk Revit 2021–2027.
