Work with parameters in bulk—not one by one

Add, delete, map, transfer, and change parameters as a set. RS Param Manager brings family and project parameter workflows into readable tables and can open instead of the standard Revit dialogs.

The essentials: one action for multiple parameters

Add. Bring in shared parameters from one or more shared parameter files (SPFs), plus custom family parameters in the Family Editor. Load lists from Excel, CSV, TSV, TXT, or the clipboard; assign a group and type/instance setting to a whole set.

Delete. Remove several selected parameters with one command and confirmation. Revit built-in parameters are protected; document dependencies and restrictions may prevent deletion.

Map. Prepare replacements of family parameters or existing shared parameters with shared definitions from an SPF. Match compatible definitions by name and review before applying. Shared parameter names can also be updated from an SPF by the same GUID.

Transfer. Move selected parameters between groups, reorder them in a family, exchange sets through files, and align project parameters with a reference. A separate command transfers values between parameters.

Change type and properties. Switch multiple parameters between type and instance, assign groups and categories, and edit family parameter properties. Convert family parameters to shared parameters or back where Revit permits.

See the properties you need at a glance

In a family: name, origin—built-in, shared, or family parameter—data type, type/instance, value, formula, and lock. Group headings show the group; editing dialogs and tooltips provide additional properties.

In projects and SPFs: parameter kind, data type, group, categories, and applicable binding properties. Global parameters show values, formulas, and reporting status; the SPF editor shows GUID, description, and definition flags. Project shared-parameter descriptions and user-modifiable status come from connected SPFs, matched by GUID.

Type/instance, parameter origin, and data type are different properties. An existing data type, such as Length or Text, cannot be changed arbitrarily: replacements require a matching data type.

Working with families and projects

Families: add and edit a complete set

Bulk Add now uses two side-by-side lists with arrows/double-click. Input errors keep the entered formula for correction, cancellation or forced application where available. Read-only cells use disabled-text color; long menus scroll and open at the current value. Copy Name omits “(default)”; Up/Down no longer jerks the table; create/edit icons use Revit’s eight-point star.

Projects: parameters and bindings in one table

Values when changing a binding: type to instance copies the type value to its instances; instance to type transfers a value only when every instance of that type agrees. Conflicts are reported, and the affected type values remain empty.

Transfer, exchange, and review

Families—.params.json. Export stores parameters, properties, formulas, and values for all family types. Import previews Before/After and applies only checked changes: additions, explicit deletions, replacements, names, groups, type/instance, formulas, values, and order. Omitting a parameter from the file does not delete it. Import checks regeneration of all family types afterward.

Projects—compare with a reference. Use an open project, a link, .rvt / .rte, or .rsparams.json. Shared parameters match by GUID; project parameters by name. Choose missing shared parameters to add, bindings to correct, replacements, and extras to remove. Export to Excel, CSV, or a reference file; a data-type mismatch is not corrected automatically.

Value transfer and usage. Value Transfer works with one source/target parameter pair, processing elements or types in the target categories in bulk: fill empty values only or overwrite. Usage helps review populated values, schedules, filters, views, and families; it does not prove that every possible dependency is absent.

SPFs: more than choosing a file

Familiar Revit commands and recent improvements

Open the solution instead of standard dialogs

In Settings → Revit Commands, enable the commands you need. Each has its own switch; replacement is off by default. Once enabled, the familiar Revit button and its assigned keyboard shortcut open the solution:

Family Types opens the extended family parameter table.

Project Parameters opens the project parameter table.

Shared Parameters opens the editor for Revit's active SPF.

Global Parameters opens the project table showing global parameters only.

From a window opened this way, Standard Revit dialog… saves changes and switches to the native dialog. The override can be disabled. It does not replace every nested Revit dialog; overriding Global Parameters is unavailable in Revit 2021. If a command cannot be overridden, another add-in owns it, or the solution window fails to open, the native command is retained or restored.

Improvements through version 1.7.92

Formulas and import. The multiline editor supports indentation and // comments while sending a single-line formula to Revit. Import handles formulas and values together. When a formula fails, the solution supplements Revit's message with detected causes: unknown names, self-references and cycles, type-to-instance references, and incompatible restrictions; it also lists participating parameter data types.

Navigation and relationships. Tab / Shift+Tab move down/up within a column; arrow keys help move between cells. Scroll while editing. Show related highlights direct formula dependents. Show unassigned filters length, angle, and integer parameters not assigned to dimensions or arrays; a formula alone does not count as an assignment.

Appearance and control over changes

Fast tables, per-section project columns, search, sorting, and saved column widths and group states support large lists. In Settings → Colors, distinguish origin through row backgrounds and data types through text color; themes and bold text are configurable. General settings also provide licensing and updates.

Save a document copy before bulk editing. Review previews and reports: one failed operation does not always roll back the entire batch. Cancel in the main window reverts changes not yet committed; Apply commits the current stage. SPF edits are written separately: on cancellation, the editor offers to restore the saved file state.

Licensing modes

New “Pay as you go” licensing mode: top up the RS-Systems account on the website, then any suite product can run for 1 cent per minute of actual work. Only active minutes are charged: input in product windows or panels, command execution, long processing, or background model work; an open but idle window is free. The 1 cent/minute charge is per computer regardless of how many products are running; Internet is required. The account is connected with a device code (the password is never passed to the product); connecting it in one product enables the mode in all. Priority: license → regional promotion → active trial → pay as you go, so licensed or trial products do not consume the balance.

A new product first uses its own 90-day trial—even if an account is already connected—and only then starts consuming the balance together with the other suite products. An expired trial does not restart; an individual product license still takes precedence over pay as you go, while the other products remain on pay as you go. Status: “Trial: N days left. Then — pay as you go.”

The status line shows the balance (“Pay as you go: balance 12.34 USD (≈ 20 h 34 min)”). With less than one hour left, an indicator, “≈ N min left — top up your balance”, and a “Top up” button appear. There are no balance pop-ups. Without a connection or with an empty balance, commands and panels do not start; already open windows and running processing are not interrupted. “Pay as you go” (connect, top up, disconnect) is now available in the startup and License windows.

RS Param Manager

Professional parameter management for Autodesk Revit 2021–2027

Professional parameter management for Autodesk Revit 2021–2027

RS Param Manager brings the parameter operations that most often consume designers’ time into one controlled workflow: project parameters, shared parameters, family parameters, checking against a standard, value transfer and global parameters. The solution is designed for architects, engineers, BIM coordinators and family authors who need to make bulk changes quickly while maintaining consistent rules across models and families.

What matters most in a designer’s daily work

• View and edit project parameters in one table instead of moving between standard Revit dialogs.

• Add and standardize dozens of parameters in bulk from shared parameter files, tables and the clipboard.

• Keep family parameters, formulas, values and shared definitions aligned with company standards.

• Compare the model with a reference and selectively correct missing or incorrectly bound parameters.

1. Project parameters in one working table

The main project window shows the parameter name, kind (project or shared parameter), data type, instance/type binding, the vary-between-group-instances setting, group, categories, description and editability. Search and category filtering reduce the list, while multi-level sorting helps check large projects. You can change groups and bindings in bulk, edit categories and highlight duplicate-name problems. Switching “instance ↔ type” follows value-preservation rules rather than simply resetting values.

1. Project parameters in one working table

2. Batch addition and standardization

Parameters are added in batches from all connected shared parameter files or imported from XLSX, CSV, TSV, TXT and data copied from Excel. Import recognizes common Russian and English column headings, matches names to shared definitions, previews the action for each row and lets you set the group, instance/type, categories, initial values and formulas before running. Existing parameters can be skipped or updated. In families, initial values are written to the current type or all types at once.

2. Batch addition and standardization

3. Shared parameter files as a working library

RS Param Manager uses Revit’s active shared parameter file together with any number of additional files connected within the solution. Definitions can be reloaded and searched by name, group, data type or GUID. If the same name occurs in several files, you choose the exact source. Existing project or family parameters can be matched and replaced with shared definitions. A project parameter can also be converted to a shared parameter in an existing or new shared parameter file, preserving categories, group, instance/type, variation between group instances and values wherever Revit permits.

3. Shared parameter files as a working library

4. Working with families without repetitive dialogs

In the Family Editor, RS Param Manager provides a familiar “Family Types”-style workspace. You can manage types; edit values, formulas and locks; change parameter groups and order; add, rename and delete parameters; and replace family parameters with shared ones. Dedicated selectors are provided for materials, images, keynotes and nested families. The formula editor supports multiple lines and comments while sending a valid single-line formula to Revit. Family parameter sets can be exported and imported with their values and formulas, then matched to shared parameters.

5. Checking the model against a parameter standard

The “Compare / transfer” command compares the open project with another open model or link, a saved .rsparams.json reference, or an RVT/RTE file opened read-only in the background. Shared parameters are matched by GUID; project parameters by name. Results are classified as missing, different, conflicting, extra or matching. For checked rows, you can replace conflicting parameters with shared ones, add missing parameters, correct groups and categories, and delete extras when necessary. The current project can be saved as a reusable reference for subsequent checks.

5. Checking the model against a parameter standard

6. Checking usage and transferring values

Usage analysis shows whether a parameter is needed in the actual model: how many elements or types have a value, whether it is used in schedules, view filters, views or view templates, and which parameters appear unused. Unused parameters can be returned as a selection in the main list for cleanup. The value transfer tool copies data from one parameter to another across the destination parameter’s categories, accounts for instance/type combinations, can fill only empty values and records a clear result in the operation log.

6. Checking usage and transferring values

7. Global parameters in the same maintenance workflow

A separate window displays global parameters, their data type, current value, formula, group, reporting status and number of associated dimensions. You can search the list; create new global parameters; rename existing ones, move them to another group, change their value or formula, and delete them with a warning when associated dimensions exist. The project’s controlling values and formulas are therefore maintained alongside the rest of the parameter system rather than through a separate, disconnected process.

7. Global parameters in the same maintenance workflow

8. Details that speed up and safeguard repetitive work

Configurable color coding distinguishes parameter kind and data type; it can be disabled completely when needed. Search fields clear with one click, window size and position are remembered, and the interface supports Auto, Light, Dark and RS-Systems modes. Batch actions create tidy Revit undo entries; an error in one row is isolated rather than canceling the entire batch, while warnings and results are written to the log. RS Param Manager launches from the RS-Systems ribbon and is built for Revit 2021–2027.

9. Licensing and payment

The same arrangement applies to all plugins in the RS-Systems product line: a trial period first, followed by a choice of a license for an individual plugin or time-based billing for the entire product line.

90-day trial. The plugin is fully functional and free. The trial period is counted separately for each plugin.

Individual plugin license. Purchase it at rs-systems.org and activate it with a code or a .rslic file in the license window. A licensed plugin does not deduct funds from your balance.

Time-based billing for the entire product line. Top up your rs-systems.org account balance through PayPal, and any plugin in the product line can run at a rate of 1 cent per minute of use. You pay only for minutes in which the plugin is actually used: running a command, entering information in a window or panel, or processing in progress. An open but idle window is not charged. No matter how many plugins run on the computer simultaneously, the total never exceeds 1 cent per minute.

Connect once. On the “Time-based billing” tab in the license window, click “Connect account…” and confirm the displayed code in your account area. The connection applies to all plugins in the product line on this computer; your password is not passed to the plugin.

Each new plugin starts with its own trial. If your account is already connected, a newly installed plugin starts its own 90-day trial without extra prompts and switches to time-based billing when the trial ends.

A license takes priority over time-based billing. While using time-based billing, you can purchase a license for an individual plugin at any time: charges for that plugin stop, while the other plugins continue on time-based billing.

Balance and internet access. Time-based billing requires an internet connection. The remaining balance appears in the plugin window’s status bar; when it is low, a “Top up” button appears there, without popup reminders. If the balance runs out, new commands cannot start, but processing already in progress is completed. Top-ups, charge history, and connected computers are available in the “Time-based billing” section of your account area.
