RS Rooms
Draws interior elevations, finish walls and door placeholders for every room of a Revit project — in batches, from one window.
What it is
RS Rooms is a Revit add-in that takes the rooms of your model, and of linked models, as its starting point and automatically produces what normally has to be made room by room by hand: an interior elevation view of every wall, finish (lining) walls along the room boundaries, and door placeholders copied from a linked architectural model. It combines two earlier RS-Systems tools, RS RoomElevations and RS RoomWalls, in a single window with tabs.
What it is for
Interior finishing documentation means repeating the same routine for hundreds of rooms: placing an elevation marker at each wall, turning it towards the wall, fitting the crop region, naming and sorting the views; modelling a lining wall along every room contour and cutting the door and window openings in it; bringing the doors of the architectural model into the finishing model. RS Rooms does this for all the rooms you check, in one run, and leaves ordinary Revit elements that you can keep editing.
Elevations tab: interior elevations for each wall of a room
Creates a separate interior elevation view for every wall segment of every checked room.
Rooms are read from the open model and from all loaded Revit links, with their geometry transformed to the host model. Segments shorter than a set minimum length are skipped, and room separation lines can be included as boundaries.
For each segment the view camera is placed inside the room in front of the wall and turned to look straight at it. The crop region covers the wall length plus side offsets, from the floor minus a bottom offset to the top of the room plus a top offset, and the far clip is set to a chosen depth behind the finished face.
You choose the elevation view type, the view template, the scale and all offsets.
View names are built from a template using the building, level, room number, room name and a sequence number. Characters that Revit does not allow in view names are replaced, and duplicate names get a suffix. The building is read from a room parameter you specify, or entered by hand.
Every view receives shared parameters with the building, level, room number and room name, so the views can be filtered, sorted and placed on sheets by room. Views made from arc walls or from separation lines get a "check manually" flag.
Walls tab: finish walls along the room boundaries
Builds finish walls inside the checked rooms, following their boundaries.
You choose the wall type of the project (a preview shows its layers), the base offset and the height: a fixed value, or automatically up to the next level above each room.
The wall axis is shifted into the room by half the wall thickness, so the outer face lies exactly on the room boundary and the wall body goes inside. The whole contour is offset at once, so all walls have the same orientation and clean corner joints. Arcs stay arcs, and separation lines are skipped.
Optionally, the new walls are made room-bounding and joined to the existing walls.
Optionally, openings are cut for the doors and windows of the architectural walls, including walls from linked models. Curtain walls are cut over their whole glazed area; doors and windows in curved walls are not cut.
A report shows how many walls were created, how many openings were cut or skipped, and what went wrong.
Doors sub-tab: door placeholders from a linked model
Brings the doors of a linked model (or elements of another category) into your model as editable placeholders.
You pick a loaded link, a category present in it and a placeholder family of your project: a non-hosted family of that category, so that no wall is required.
Every element of the link is copied to its position. The placeholder receives the Mark and a summary in Comments (level, from-room, to-room, width, height); if the family has matching text parameters, it also receives the level, rooms, width, height, source id and a full dump of the source parameters. Text parameters with the same names are mirrored.
Running the command again updates the placeholders that already exist instead of creating duplicates, matching them by the source id.
How to use it
1. Open a project and click the Rooms button on the RS-Systems tab, RS Tools panel.
2. On the tab you need, load the list of rooms (host model and links).
3. Check the rooms to process; Select all and Clear all help.
4. Set the options of the tab: view type and template, offsets and name template for elevations; wall type and height for walls; link, category and family for doors.
5. Press the build button. The batch runs in the model and a report shows the result.
Good to know
The model needs at least one floor plan (for elevation markers) and levels. Rooms must be placed and enclosed.
Everything is created in the model you have open; linked models are only read, never changed.
Light, Dark and RS-Systems themes are available, plus an Auto mode that follows the Revit theme. The interface is localised to the Revit interface languages. A Settings window holds the theme, licence and update options, and F1 opens the help page.
Compatible with Autodesk Revit 2021–2027.
